Course Project: Part 1—Identifying a Researchable Problem

Course Project: Part 1—Identifying a Researchable ProblemFormulating a question that targets the goal of your research is a challenging but essential task. The question plays a crucial role in all other aspects of the research, including the determination of the research design and theoretical perspective to be applied, which data will be collected, and which tools will be used for analysis. It is therefore essential to take the time to ensure that the research question addresses what you actually want to study. Doing so will increase your likelihood of obtaining meaningful results. In this first component of the Course Project, you formulate questions to address a particular nursing issue or problem. You use the PICOT model—patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome—outlined in the Learning Resources to design your questions. To prepare:Note: Not all of these variables may be appropriate to every question. Be sure to analyze which are and are not relevant to your specific question. To complete: the picot question should have a psych nurse focus – See formulated question below. Please correct of add to the question if neededWrite a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following: *My PICOT questionIn depressed individuals with suicidal ideation (P), does adding medication to psychotherapy (I) compared to medication alone (C) improve or worsen outcome (O)?Article references (These are relevant articles I found in CINAHL and Medline with full text [8])Cox, G. This is a 3-4 page paper. In this week you are introducing your project and developing your PICOT Question that will be the basis of your project. A well-developed question is essential for a solid EBP project. This assignment is to be approximately 3-4 pages long. You will provide a background of the situation and what the problem is you are addressing. You will address the five background questions you have identified, specifically what the problem is, the purpose of your project, the five background questions, your PICOT question, and identify the PICOT components of your question. To help you develop your paper, here is a recommended template with section headings (APA format)Title page (with running header and page #) See APA for formatting of title pageBody of paper (page two +) see APA for general formatting for scholarly papers.Introduction (centered on line of page) level 1 headingIn the introduction, you are providing general information of the issue-why importantBackground (level 2 heading APA) in background you are providing specific information about your problem and the clinical setting where the problem is occurring.Description of the issue and why its significant. Include a statement:“The problem is _______“The purpose of this project is to_______________Five Questions (level 2 heading APA) list five questions that will help guide your literature review and search for information related to your PICOT question.PICOT Question (level 2 heading APA) What is your PICOT question and then list the component PICOT components of the question. Also provide the 10 key words you will use for your literature search and a rationale.References (Level 1 header) References go on their own page. APA formatting for references is important. The writing center is available to you and is an invaluable resource to help you assure your paper is a scholarly paper. One important point in selection of your problem and the focus of your PICOT question– The class is only 11 weeks long and your final project is due week 10.Bear in mind, you can’t “Cure world hunger” your project is taking a bite out of that bigger issue problem. Be sure your focus is accomplishable in ten weeks.Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. A well-focused PICOT question determines a successful EBP project. Learning the EBP process is important as you will use it in your future classes with the Walden program
